  • Lock Your Doors, Say Police
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sioux Falls police are urging residents to make sure their homes and garages are locked up overnight, after a string of burglaries. Authorities say four occupied homes within a two-mile area were hit early Sunday. Detectives say no items of great value were taken, but homeowners lost a laptop in another overnight burglary in another area. Police suspect the crimes are connected. Authorities say a cluster of homes with unlocked doors is an easy target for thieves. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

  • Rave Reviews for LifeLight Grounds
WORTHING, S.D. (AP) - Organizers of the LifeLight music festival says attendees offered rave reviews of the new grounds near Worthing. Co-founder Alan Greene says the Christian music festival was blessed with great weather, more space and record crowds. Greene estimates crowds of around 100,000 people each day. The festival this year moved from its longtime home at Wild Water West. Volunteer Paul Carlson says the new grounds are so much bigger that they've made things more comfortable. Greene says the only thing he'd change next year would be to add more field approaches in the parking area to get exiting traffic to move faster. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. • New Dorm Opens at USD
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - A new $26.8 million dormitory has opened at the University of South Dakota. Coyote Village sits directly south of the DakotaDome, and students were able to move into the new suite-style dorms this semester. USD student Kyle Hemeyer says the new dorm offers a lot more freedom. Students have to be at least a sophomore to get a spot in the two-to four-bedrooms suites. Each comes with a full-sized refrigerator, a microwave and a sink, and is fully furnished including a 42-inch flat screen television. Private bathrooms are shared by no more than two students. Monthly rental rates range from $453 to $658 with either a 10-or 12-month lease. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

  • State Fair Numbers Look Good
HURON, S.D. (AP) - Early indications from the South Dakota State Fair suggest that crowds were as large or better than last year. The 125th edition of the annual event in Huron completed its five-day run on Monday. Fair Manager Jerome Hertel says the fair went well, with great weather on Friday, Saturday and Sunday before some rain showers crept in on Monday. Hertel says final attendance figures still need to be calculated. Saturday night's Martina McBride concert was the top drawing grandstand act. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. • Firefighter Arrested for DUI
MADISON, S.D. (AP) - Police say a volunteer firefighter in Madison is accused of driving a city fire truck while drunk. Scott Johnson, 42, was arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend after leaving the scene of a fire call. Police say the firefighters and an officer were sent when a fire alarm went off at a business Saturday. Police say the officer gave Johnson a breathalyzer because the officer thought Johnson might be drunk. Madison Fire Chief Jerry Johnson says Scott Johnson has been suspended. • Lennox Couple Injured in ND
WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a woman killed in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 in Cass County. The patrol says 58-year-old Alice Wagner of Mapleton died in the crash just west of West Fargo shortly after 7 p.m. Monday. Authorities say Wagner was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle that crossed the median after being sideswiped by a car. The SUV then sideswiped a semi-tractor towing a trailer and hit a Suburban head-on. The patrol says the driver of the SUV, 58-year-old Steven Wagner of Mapleton, was injured, as were 45-year-old Sean Magee and 44-year-old Jean Magee, both of Lennox, S.D., in the Suburban.
